Four specs decide whether a red light panel is a serious recovery tool or an expensive lamp: irradiance measured at a real distance, the wavelengths it covers, its EMF emission, and whether it flickers. The single most abused number is irradiance, because a panel measured at zero inches can quote a figure two or three times higher than the same panel at a realistic three-inch distance. Always ask at what distance a number was taken. Beyond the specs, buying in Singapore adds two practical checks: voltage compatibility with 230V mains, and whether the warranty is actually serviceable here. Spec 1: irradiance, and the distance trick

Irradiance is how much light energy lands on your skin each second, written in milliwatts per square centimetre. It sets how long a session needs to be to reach a given dose. It is also where the spec games happen.

Intensity falls off fast as you move away from a panel, so an irradiance figure is meaningless without the distance it was measured at. A seller quoting a big number at the panel surface, at zero inches, is quoting a number you will never actually receive, because you stand back from the panel to cover your body. The honest way to read the spec is at a realistic distance. Spec 2: wavelengths and depth

Wavelength maps to depth, which is the single most useful thing to understand about a panel. Shorter red wavelengths around 630 and 660nm are absorbed near the skin surface. Longer near-infrared wavelengths from about 810nm upward reach deeper into muscle and joint tissue. A panel fixed to one or two wavelengths is committed to one depth; a multi-wavelength panel spans surface to deep in one device.

This is why band count matters, within reason. Flicker is rapid fluctuation in light output you may not consciously see; flicker-free output removes it from a practice you repeat often.   • At what distance is the irradiance measured? Normalise to three inches.
  • Which exact wavelengths, and can they run independently?
  • Is EMF and flicker addressed on the spec sheet at all?
  • Is it configured for 230V Singapore mains?
  • Where is the warranty serviced, and how long does a repair take?
